The Foundation is an international development organisation working to prevent blindness and restore sight. We continue to carry on the legacy of Professor Fred Hollows, who believed every person had the right to quality eye care, no matter where they live. The Foundation has grown to work in more than 25 countries throughout Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific, as well as Australia. The Foundation has restored sight to more than 3 million people worldwide. We have an ambitious five-year strategic plan that aims to take us even closer to realising our vision of a world in which no person is needlessly blind or vision impaired and Indigenous Australians exercise their right to sight and good health.
- Global Safeguarding Manager
- The Global Safeguarding Manager is the operational lead for safeguarding, holding responsibility for:
- Leading implementation and maintenance of The Foundation’s Safeguarding People policy and global standards.
- Owning and overseeing the Speak-Up – Concerns/complaints and incident management process. Leading incident investigations, managing donor or statutory notifications and after-care and maintaining the Safeguarding register.
- Managing sensitive incidents with a survivor-centred, trauma-informed approach.
- Coordinating and supporting safeguarding focal points.
- Designing and executing global safeguarding capability plan.
- Driving compliance with DFAT, ACFID and other donor requirements.
- Embedding safeguarding risk into program design, partner management and travel/visitor processes.
- Generating risk insights and strategic recommendations for leadership and Board committees.
- Partnering with internal stakeholders to integrate and embed safeguarding into workforce planning, learning frameworks, organisational capability initiatives, recruitment, induction, content creation and data protection.
- Leading and coordinating The Foundation’s cross-functional Safeguarding forum.
- Essential experience:
- Degree in Human Services (Social Work, Psychology, etc.) or equivalent child/adult safeguarding experience.
- 4+ years’ experience in a safeguarding role within an INGO or similar setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead sensitive investigations and coordinate multi-disciplinary incident teams
- Proven success delivering safeguarding training globally and building capability with diverse partners.
- Hands-on experience with partner due diligence and risk-based safeguarding assurance.
- Working knowledge of DFAT Child Protection minimum standards, DFAT PSEAH Policy; and ACFID Code of Conduct.
- Desirable Experience:
- Experience designing safeguarding controls into program cycles and MEL frameworks.
- Familiarity with clinical or healthcare contexts and serious incident thresholds.
